Press release issued on behalf of AVA
After closing the doors on another hugely successful instalment of the Audio Visual Arts Festival in June, AVA is back with an upcoming September show, the Belfast edition of Bicep’s global album live tour at the Ulster Hall on Saturday 30 September.
In addition to hosting the home-leg of the Bicep album tour, this show will now feature additional support from Hammer and Ross From Friends (Live). AVA will be hosting the live show alongside other leading festivals including Glastonbury, Pitchfork, Melt and Dekmantel, shortly after the hotly anticipated album, Bicep, is released on 1 September on Ninja Tune.
Bicep - the Belfast-born, London-based duo of Matt McBriar and Andy Ferguson - return home as part of the showcasing tour of their eponymous debut album, Bicep. The record truly encapsulates their history and the distillation of their passion for music and club culture since their first release in 2010.
The album is a sonic tour of the duo’s journey, touching the cornerstones of underground club culture. The album has foundations of classic house, techno, electro and Italo disco, but flipped and morphed into a fresh design bearing the unique Bicep sonic signature that has previously earned them track of the year accolades from Mixmag and DJ Mag for their 2015 track Just. Having taken Coachella and Primavera festivals by storm this year, and after a 3 minute sell-out at their recent London show at Village Underground, the hometown stop of this tour is not to be missed.
Support on the night comes from long-time friend and Feel My Bicep co-contributor, Hammer. Running club nights in Glasgow from the age of 20, Sub Club is now his spiritual home, promoting the ever growing Thunder Disco parties and playing the renowned Subculture. More recently, Hammer’s been taking the scene by storm with sets at AVA Festival, Boiler Room, Love International, Electric Elephant, Farr Festival and Secret Garden Party, as well as a string of recent releases including his Canna and Dahlia EPs.
The most recent addition to the line-up is the UK producer, Ross From Friends, as he returns to Belfast to play as part of his three piece live band. Gaining inspiration from all corners of the musical milieu - including hip-hop sampling, 80s Eurobeat and Hi-NRG - helps to make up the comprehensive sound palette that Ross has the liberty of drawing from. Fashioning these wide-ranging influences into cleverly compressed and effervescent pieces of music, the output you hear from Ross is just as certain to make you move as it is to make you feel. Releases on Lobster Theremin, Distant Hawaii, Breaker Breaker Recordings and his new EP, The Outsiders, on Lone’s Magic Wire label cement Ross as definitely one to keep your eye on.
